Five looks for Christmas: No. 1 Natural Wonders

Embrace the texture and earthiness found in forests that have been covered in a dusting of snow. Gather together twigs, pine cones and dried seed pods from the outdoors, and display them in big glass bowls or rustic vases. Dress your tree with a mix of wooden decorations and glass baubles, and even consider laying out sheepskin rugs or a reindeer hide beneath the tree. It’s a look which wouldn’t be out of place in a log cabin or mountain lodge and, as well as being an easy theme to work with, it will immediately feel cosy and warming.

Blue Mountain Spruce Christmas tree pre-lit, £350; tree decorations, from £10.50 for 6; all Cox & Cox

Only a couple of days ago, whilst chatting with a group of friends, a debate began on real versus faux trees. If you prefer the latter, then this beautiful tree would be a good option and, as it comes pre-lit, you wouldn’t have to bother with the sometimes fiddly job of adding fairy lights. Blue Mountain Spruce Christmas tree pre-lit, £350; tree decorations, from £10.50 for 6; all Cox & Cox

Bark Reindeer decorations, £5 each, Baileys

Baileys know a thing or two about creating relaxed, earthy spaces and their Christmas offering is very much in keeping with this ethos. I would pop some white painted twigs in a big pot or jug and then hang these wooden decorations from the branches. Bark Reindeer decorations, £5 each, Baileys

Zaria Diamond baubles, from £12.95 for a set of 4, Nkuku

Whilst we love the earthy mattness of this rustic look, when it comes to the tree, we would definitely add some shiny baubles to reflect the lights in the tree – these handmade baubles have an antiqued silver finish and would contrast nicely with the woody elements. Zaria Diamond baubles, from £12.95 for a set of 4, Nkuku

Highland Myths glitter spray bauble in Silver, £5, John Lewis

To capture the frostiness of the forest in winter, taupe, the palest lichen greens and silvery baubles would all work well. Highland Myths glitter spray bauble in Silver, £5, John Lewis

The tarnished look of the brass leaves in this garland will fit perfectly with the rustic feel of the scheme; the fairy lights will enhance the mood with a subtle warm glow. Twinkle Leaf garland, £42, Rowen & Wren
